Name That Bike Share Program!

In the spring of 2014, Ann Arbor, Mi., will launch a new community bike share program with 14 stations and 125 bicycles.

Anyone 18 and up will be able to join the bike share as a daily, weekly or annual member. Members will be able to rent bicycles by swiping a membership card or credit card at a kiosk and the bikes can be returned to any station. It is estimated that day passes will cost five dollars, $20 for weekly passes and $60 for an annual membership.

The Ann Arbor Clean Energy Coalition (CEC), which is leading the project, has secured $600,000 in federal grants for initial costs and the city is providing $150,000 over the next few years. The University of Michigan has pledged $600,000 to help cover operational costs for the first three years.

However, there is still one major problem: the program does not have a name!

The CEC and other program partners are asking you to show your support for existing name suggested and to offer your own suggestions.

To submit suggestions visit the Bike Share Facebook page or the CEC website. Submissions will be accepted through November 15th and all participants will be entered into a drawing for a one-year subscription into the program.

Suggestions so far have included “Ann Arbor Bike Share,” “Ann Arbor B-Cycle,” and “MiBike.”
