New Bridge Brings Promise of Bicycle Path from Detroit to Canada

A bicycle path will likely be constructed from Detroit to Windsor, Ontario as part of the New International Crossing (NITC).
 
Construction on the bridge is expected to begin sometime next year, and estimated for completion by 2016.
 
Bicycle organizations look to get in on the ground floor as plans for the bridge move forward. The bicycle path has begun to take shape as it was approved by the Michigan's Department of Transportation. 
 
Recently Todd Scott, director of Detroit for the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance, explains that after contacting Sen. Carl Levin about the path, Levin contacted the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano. Should this bicycle path come to fruition it will connect cyclists with a vast array of trails, such as the Waterfront Trail, which eventually leads to Montreal, Quebec.
