New Proposal to Add More Bicycle Racks to Downtown Grand Rapids
March 12th, 2013 at 3:52 pm   starstarstarstarstar
Grand Rapids could become even more bicycle friendly come June if the city passes the new proposal to install over 200 bicycle racks throughout the downtown area.

Along with the 200 off-street bicycle racks the proposal looks to install six on-street racks. The objective, as Eric Pratt of the Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority explains is to “encourage people to consider other modes besides automobiles when coming downtown,”(Downtown Grand Rapids to see an increase in bike racks, Lindsay Hall, Michigan Radio Newsroom, http://www.michiganradio.org/post/downtown-grand-rapids-see-increase-bike-racks).

The proposal has been approved by the city's parking commission even though the six on-street racks will take up metered parking spots. The commission is so in favor of the proposal that they will not be charging the usual fee for hooding the on-street parking meters, (Downtown Grand Rapids to see an increase in bike racks, Lindsay Hall, Michigan Radio Newsroom).
