Tour de Troit kicked off this past Saturday with over 6,000 participants, including one of our own attorneys, Sean Murphy!

Tour de Troit is a 30 mile-police escorted ride through downtown Detroit or a 62 mile-unescorted ride for more experienced riders.  The ride begins and ends at Roosevelt Park which is in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood.  The first ride was in 2001 and only had 50 cyclists; with 5,000 cyclists last year it has become the largest ride in Michigan, according to the League of Michigan Bicyclists. This year participants were all of all ages, all degrees of cycling level and even a few canines.

The ride is to promote bicycling safety, awareness of bicycling as a mode of transportation and to encourage growth of greenway development.

According to an article from Mlive, “A portion of the proceeds from Tour de Troit go to support the expansion of the greenways network and non-motorized transportation projects in Detroit and all of Southeastern Michigan. Since 2005, nearly $160,000 has been raised, officials said.”

After the ride, a party ensues and participants are treated to a meal provided by local restaurants, cold beverages and music!

Sean Murphy had lots of fun completing the 30 mile ride, meeting new people and enjoying local food. He can't wait to do it again next year!
